From 2014 to 2028, Wuhan Open will be held annually in September,following the Guangzhou Open and a week prior to China Open.With the WTA Premier Five Tour as the main events,Wuhan Open provides a total amount of US$2,400,000 as prize money and 900 points for the champion.
Wuhan Open as well as Doha, Rome, Montreal and Cincinnati is deemed as one of the Premier Five in the world. It is sponsored and operated by Wuhan Sports Development Investment Co., Ltd.
The introduction of WTA Premier Five Tour to Wuhan and the holding of Wuhan Open highlight Wuhan's time-honored tennis culture, ushering Wuhan in the City of Tennis. It will also be a new milestone in the progress of China’s tennis cause.
In order to hold an internationalized Wuhan Open, the Optics Valley International Tennis Center, a brand-new tennis hall with world-class facilities and modern designs, is expected to be constructed in Wuhan. The international tennis center, covering an area of 103,400 square meters and equipped with excellent auxiliary facilities, has a grand main stadium of 15,000 seats, an annex of 5,000 seats and six standard outdoor hard courts.
